Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture, Texas A&M AgriLife Research
Alexandra E. Cowan, Ph.D. joined the Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture (IHA) at Texas A&M AgriLife Research in June 2022 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with a specialization in Precision Nutrition. In her present role, her work focuses on identifying nutrients and food components systematically and scientifically to be reported by national dietary intake assessment, such as What We Eat in America, the dietary component of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, to develop an evidence-based rationale and criteria for inclusion or exclusion. Prior to her role at IHA, Dr. Cowan received her M.S. and her Ph.D. in Nutrition Science from Purdue University and completed an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Center for Health Statistics, in the Division of NHANES. Her research is predominantly focused on assessing micronutrient exposures in relation to human health across the life course, improving quantitative methods of dietary assessment to optimize human health, and dietary supplement research. She is currently a member of the American Society of Nutrition and serves on the Board of Editors for the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
