Amy Maury is a PhD student in the Behavior, Cognition, and Neuroscience (BCaN) program at American University. Her research interests focus on dietary interventions for depression and the biochemical connections between the gut microbiome and neuropsychiatric disorders. She holds an M.S. degree in Neuroscience and a B.S. in Environmental Science. Her masters thesis explored depression and blood biomarker changes after one month on the low gluatmate diet in veterans with Gulf War Illness (GWI). Her dissertation research aims to investigate microbial diversity and richness changes in the gut microbiome relative to depression before and after a dietary intervention using the low glutamate diet in Gulf War veterans. She will also explore changes in inflammatory biomarkers post-diet and their relationship to microbial species and diversity, gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, and behavioral outcomes.
