Johanna Dwyer, D.Sc., R.D., is a professor of medicine and community health at the School of Medicine , adjunct at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and senior scientist at the Jean Mayer U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University. She also serves as Director, Frances Stern Nutrition Center, Tufts Medical Center, Boston. Until 2010 she also served as an adjunct professor at the Harvard School of Public Health. She was assistant administrator for human nutrition at the USDA's Agricultural Research Service and serves as a senior nutrition scientist(contractor) at the Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS), National Institutes of Health She is editor of Nutrition Today, a review journal and earlier in her career served in Congress as a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow.
Dr. Dwyer is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and has written over 550 research and review articles in scientific journals and books. They are devoted to expanding the scientific basis for clinical and public health interventions related to diet, especially in obesity, cardiovascular and kidney disease, and on ensuring that public policy fosters such efforts, and lately on dietary supplements. She is past president of both the American Society of Nutrition (formerly the American Institute of Nutrition) and the Society for Nutrition Education. . Her honors include; the W.O. Atwater Award ); the Harvard School of Public Health Distinguished Alumnae Award ; the C.A. Elvehjem Award of the American Society of Nutrition (ASN) ; fellow, American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition ; fellow, American Society for Nutrition, Institute of Food Technologists Trailblazer Award and Lectureship ; ASN Excellence in Nutrition Education Award in 2015, and the Elaine Monsen Award of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, a among the group receiving the Mary Swartz Rose Award of ASN . Recentl, she was listed among the 1000 foremost female scientists in the US in 2022 by Research.com.
