I am a nutrition scientist with 8 years of experience in clinical and public health nutrition research and training in the leading research institutes of India and the United States. My doctoral work on protein quality evaluation of diets using stable isotope methods informed the nutrient requirements and dietary guidelines for Indians. As a postdoctoral researcher, I am currently facilitating a double-blind randomized control micronutrient supplementation trial in pregnant women and women in reproductive age in the rural areas of Bangladesh to assess the impact on the nutritional status of vulnerable groups of women, pregnancy, and birth related outcomes. My previous postdoctoral work on body composition and cardiometabolic health have the potential to set body compositional standards in Indian children. I received an in-depth training in energy expenditure, and substrate utilization measurements using whole body indirect calorimetry method and studied the effects of select nutraceuticals on energy expenditure and fat oxidation to address questions related to metabolic syndrome and chronic diseases. My work on maternal and child nutrition in tribal districts of Odisha, India provided me with the knowledge of designing and implementation of observational and intervention trials in the areas of public health nutrition. My research interest includes understanding biological and dietary determinants of linear growth and double burden of malnutrition in children, translation of clinical research findings into community settings and evaluating effectiveness of nutrition interventions to inform supplementary nutrition programs and policy for children from low-middle income countries.
