Najma is a registered nutritionist with expertise in population and public health research. She completed a Masters in Public Health from Simon Fraser University (Canada) in 2016. In March 2023, Najma was awarded a PhD in Medicine from the University of Adelaide.
Her PhD project was the first Australia-wide study assessing early life feeding practices and nutrient intakes in children < 2 years. Her research provides critical information relevant to public health policy such as the prevalence of food allergy, breastfeeding rates and use of breastmilk substitutes, and the nutritional adequacy of contemporary diets.
In her role as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Women and Kids theme, Najma is investigating micronutrient requirements in early childhood, particularly the role of iron.
