Dr. Darr is an Associate Professor in Kinesiology at Saginaw Valley State University. She completed her BS in Dietetics from Michigan State University, and her MS and PhD in Exercise Science both from the University at Buffalo. She has been an instructor and mentor to student-athletes and both undergraduate and graduate students in the field of Exercise Science, Nutrition, and Health for over 17 years. In addition, she is a 14-year practicing Sports Dietitian with experience at the Olympic, DI, DII, and DIII levels. Dr. Darr started SVSU Sports Nutrition during her first year at SVSU in 2015 as a Tenure Track Faculty member; which provides SVSU athletics with Medical Nutrition Therapy, individual and team counseling, food budgeting, grocery store tours, fueling stations, travel meal guidance, body composition measures, refueling needs, and food safety education. Additionally she has a robust Teaching and Research Commitment to the University. Her current courses include Sports Nutrition, Kinesiology Internship, Personal Training and Clinical Disease States. Dr. Darr’s post pandemic research has focused on surveys of college students along with student athletes with a focus on many factors of performance such as nutrition, mental health, sleep, and physical activity and recovery. She enlists Kinesiology students to assist with Sports Nutrition Service and Research in order to bolster their own collegial experiences an aid in the athletes building a well-rounded healthy lifestyle plan to embrace nutrition and exercise both for optimal performance on and off the field.
