Dr. Jomaa is an associate professor at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the North Carolina Central University, and an adjunct associate professor at the American University of Beirut and the Pennsylvania State University. She has more than 12 years of experience working in academia as a university professor and researcher in the field of community and public health nutrition. Dr. Jomaa's main research interests are related to community nutrition including food and nutrition security, childhood and adolescent nutrition, nutrition education, and refugee health. She uses mixed methods research approaches to 1) identify and assess the burden of food and nutrition insecurity among vulnerable groups, including women, children, youth, refugees and minority groups, and 2) design and evaluate the effectiveness of community-based interventions in improving their nutrition and health outcomes. Her research also includes approaches to promote sustainable diets and assessing the environmental footprints associated with dietary changes observed among different population groups. Dr. Jomaa has been an active member of the American Society of Nutrition since 2018 and she is a member of several ASN RIS including Nutrition Education and Behavioral Sciences and the Community and Public Health Nutrition. Over the years, Dr Jomaa received multiple awards in recognition of her contributions in teaching, research, and service, including being honored by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2018 to be selected among the top 40 scientists under 40 for the advancement of science, engineering, and technology.
