Kendahl Heckstall graduated this past May with her B.S in Nutrition Science from Georgia State University (GSU). In 2019, Kendahl had the opportunity to intern with the USDA-ARS and was exposed to wheat breeding at Washington State University (WSU). There she was exposed to research and agriculture firsthand. This experience sparked her curiosity in nutrition and in 2021 she transferred to GSU from Florida A&M University and joined the Nutrition Science program. During the summer of 2021, Kendahl participated in a Research Experiences for Undergraduates at WSU focused on the food, energy, water nexus in the Columbia River Basin (CRB). Over the summer she had a research project exploring how over-tree netting can help mitigate climate change’s impact on the sunburn risk of apples in the CRB. Also in 2021, Kendahl was inducted into the Honors College and joined Dr. Feresin’s lab through the University Assistantship Program. In Dr. Feresin’s lab, Kendahl assisted with various projects from feeding, blood collection, surgery, and conducted an honors thesis project. Kendahl has received scholarships from Lettie Pate Whitehead, Nutrition and Dietetics, Max M. Cuba, and GSU Foundation. Kendahl was selected to be the American Society 2022-2023 Nutrition Student Representative for Experimental Animal Nutrition Research Interest Section, a 2022-2023 Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation Scholar Fellow, the Department of Nutrition’s 2022-2023 Outstanding Undergraduate Nutrition Researcher, and she was inducted into the Alpha Eta Honors Society.
