Muskaan Makkar is a junior at the University of South Carolina Honors College, majoring in Public Health and minoring in Nutrition & Food Systems and Economics. For the past year, she has been working as an undergraduate research assistant in the Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior Department on global nutrition research, specifically on goal frame advertising strategies in Ghanaian food advertisements. Muskaan has also worked on research projects on the topics of reproductive health and insulin access, which broadened her knowledge of the social determinants of health and health economics. She is currently researching the effects of Medicaid coverage on substance use disorder treatment access. Her summative research involvement has deepened her curiosity in health policy and chronic disease, which she hopes to explore further at ASN.
