Dr. Richard Bukenya believes in promoting interdisciplinary training and research to address food and nutrition challenges in African communities.He has experience in participatory and inclusive programming and worked with local and international organizations to address community health challenges using community engagement and participatory rural appraisal approaches. He previously worked on Programmes that included children and ensured gender and disability mainstreaming. During my graduate research, Richard conducted both experimental and crosssectional survey designs. For PhD research, Richard worked to improve evaluation using surveys and developed Nutrition Knowledge survey tool for Uganda. For The MSc Research, Richard used food based supplements (roselle juice) to improve iron status, appetite and to reduce episodes common diseases like malaria among children below two years. Richard has data analysis skills using various software like SPSS, EPIINFO, ENA for SMART and Nutrisurvey. At Makerere University (Department of Community Health and Behavioral Sciences and Department of Food Technoligy and Human Nutrition), Richard teaches nutrition related courses including Nutrition Epidemiology, Biochemistry, Community Nutrition, Body Composition Assessment using Anthropometry, Nutrition Education, Behavioral Theories, Nutrition and immune system interaction, Biostatistics, and Research Methodology.
