Professor
Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral, Ecuador
Andrea is a pharmacist who graduated from the prestigious University of Chile. During her studies, her interest in science was strengthened, in which she participated in projects as a research assistant in organic chemistry and pharmacology, identifying phytopharmaceuticals, new antitumor molecules with the inhibitory and uncoupling capacity of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, and the murine xenograft model for the search for pharmacological targets.
This approach led her to carry out her doctoral program in 2012 in the field of pharmacology at the University of Chile, in which she identified epigenetic biomarkers for early detection against Helicobacter pylori infection in children under five years of age, managing to obtain their Ph.D. degree in Pharmacology in 2016. As a result of her doctoral research, Andrea received awards from the scientific community, such as best doctoral thesis, best oral presentation at the international congress of pediatric infectious diseases in Brazil, and obtaining recognition in Ecuador as a scientist who stood out before the age of 30.
Andrea began her scientific retribution in her country at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral, ESPOL, in 2017, as a full-time nutrition program professor and researcher at the laboratory for biomedical research. The research line at ESPOL is Pharmacological, which identifies new pharmacological actions of nutraceuticals for Human consumption. A second research line in Nutriepigenetics and multi-omics in a high-risk population searching for biomarkers of health and diseases.
