Associate Professor
Geisinger
Dr. Bailey-Davis is an Associate Professor of Population Health Sciences and the Associate Director of the Center for Obesity & Metabolic Health at Geisinger, a large integrated health system in rural Pennsylvania. She is also a registered dietitian. Dr. Bailey-Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science at the Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree in Nutrition Education at Immaculata College, and a doctorate in Adult Education at Penn State. She is also faculty in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State. Dr. Bailey-Davis’ leads multi-level prevention and has published over 75 related papers. Currently, she is leading ENCIRCLE, a comparative effectiveness trial, that compares pediatric care delivery models on obesity prevention. Integrated frameworks that coordinate preventative care and services across clinic, community, and home settings are a common theme in her research. In the ENRICH trial, she is studying orientations to integrating home visitation programs with clinical care to advance cardiovascular health for lower-income mothers and children. Community and patient engagement strategies are fundamental to her practice and research. Additionally, her research involves patient-reported outcomes, clinical decision support, predictive modeling, and personal health monitoring data. For example, she led systemwide collection of the Family Nutrition and Physical Activity (FNPA) tool as a patient-reported outcome measure in the electronic medical record at Geisinger to improve the quality of pediatric well-child visits and the prevention of obesity. Her research typically engages and supports rural, lower-income populations to promote health and reduce disparities. Today, she is leading collaborative cell-to-society research between Geisinger and Penn State University to advance women, child, and family health outcomes through the Central PA Rural Birth Cohort Study. Presently, her research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the McGowan Charitable Trust, and the Degenstein Foundation. Her prior work includes leading state nutrition and physical activity planning, coalition development, and multi-sector interventions. Her prior funding was provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Health Resources Services Administration, the National Institutes of Health, the United States Department of Agriculture, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Merck, Novo Nordisk, and WW International.
