This DSM-hosted session will focus on: 1) Raising awareness of the importance of good nutrition to obtain a healthy pregnancy. Raising awareness that preterm birth is on the rise and nutritional interventions can help decrease the risk. 2) Educate on the recent specific body of evidence that shows omega-3 fatty acids, specifically DHA, can help reduce the risk of preterm birth and low birth weight babies. The Cochran review on omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy and the most recent scientific evidence will be presented. 3) Educate on the economic impact and burden to healthcare costs associated with preterm births. Highlight the healthcare cost savings that can be obtained by omega-3 fatty acids and supplementation during pregnancy.
