Carlota Castro-Espin holds a Bachelor's Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics (University of Ramon Llull - URL, 2013), a Master's Degree in Nutrition and Metabolism (University of Barcelona - UB, 2015) and is currently doing her PhD in Cancer Epidemiology and Nutrition at the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO - Barcelona) and Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institut (IDIBELL). After completing her MSc, she joined ICO as part of the team of nutritionists and coordination of a multi-centre randomised clinical trial for the prevention of breast cancer recurrence through a weight control, diet and physical activity intervention (PREDICOP study) in breast cancer survivors. As part of her predoctoral training, in 2019 she spent 7 months at the University of Oxford (England, UK) as a research assistant in the Cancer Epidemiology Unit within the Nuffield Department of Population Health. During this period, she participated in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study investigating the role of dietary prebiotics on breast and colorectal cancer risk within the EPIC-Oxford cohort. In addition, in 2020 she obtained a PFIS (Instituto de Salud Carlos III - ISCIII) predoctoral fellowship and started her thesis focused on the study of nutritional factors (particularly dietary patterns) in relation to risk and prognosis of breast cancer.
