Dr Kim Quimby is Senior Lecturer in Immunology at the George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre, University of the West Indies and a registered medical practitioner with over 20years experience. She has a PhD in Immunology from the University of the West Indies and a MSc Medical Leadership from the University of Birkbeck. Over the past two decades, her bench-and-bedside career pathway has included clinical medicine where she manages patients with NCDs, in tandem with laboratory medicine where she researches the molecular underpinnings of various inflammatory conditions. As the Chair of the Continuing Medical Education committee, she has led multiple educational and outreach events including chairing the Diploma in Obesity and weight management development committee. Her current research thrust is in Implementation Science which is evidenced by her faculty involvement with the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases Implementation Science School. Her implementation research includes the Barbados Diabetes Remission Study-2 which is a community-based programme that trained community health advocates to support NCD care in the community. As the Primary Investigator, Dr Quimby led the development of training protocols that may be transferable to other community centres and other conditions. This has evolved into an entrepreneurship venture with the development of Caribbean-flavoured low-calorie meals and meal replacement shakes. Dr Quimby has a keen interest in community-based participatory research and improving population health through community engagement and participation.
