Dr Tinku Thomas is the Prof and Head, Dept of Biostatistics at St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore India. She has vast experience in the design and analysis of community surveys. She has been involved in the design and analysis of the evaluation survey for Kangaroo Mother Care, evaluation of distribution of double fortified salt through the public distribution system in UP and the assessment of nutrition sensitive and specific programs in Maharashtra and Rajasthan. She also leads a team that is involved in the secondary data analysis of the National Family Health Surveys, Comprehensive National Nutrition Survey and National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) that does multilevel modelling and geospatial analysis of national surveys. She has examined the linkage between production and consumption of quality foods and has developed optimization models for meeting nutrient requirements of individuals and population. She is a recipient of funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, TATA Trusts, Govt. of India. She is also leading a nationwide survey to develop a web based tool for optimizing supplementary nutrition provision in India with funding from WHO India. She has expertise in survey data analysis and analysis of community trials. She has been a consultant for UNICEF and the IAEA, both agencies of the UN and has co-authored more than 150 articles in per-reviewed journals. She is a recipient of the POWER grant for women scientists in India and has been appointed to the Statistical Review Board of the journals of American Society for Clinical Nutrition.
