Brigham and Women's Hospital
Dr. Brij Bhushan is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Lactation Lab at the Department of Pediatrics Newborn Medicine of Brigham and Women's Hospital. His research interests primarily revolve around investigating factors influencing maternal and infant health regarding breastfeeding outcomes.
He utilized multi-omics approaches to establish the link between maternal and infant clinical phenotype and breast milk's composition, including bio-molecular signatures, microbiome, and metabolome and their health impact.
Before his current position, he obtained an M.S. in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics from Latrobe University, Australia. He further pursued his academic journey and completed a Ph.D. in Life Sciences from the Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences, DRDO, India. During his Ph.D., he studied the intricate interactions between the microbiome (oral and gut), immunity, and transcriptome in the context of the 34th Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica. His work has significantly advanced our understanding of how harsh extreme environments can affect human health.
Apart from his academic pursuits, he is conscientious and outgoing. He embraces challenges and holds a deep appreciation for family and culture. Beyond the laboratory, he enjoys exploring his culinary skills through kitchen experiments, playing crickets, and embarking on adventurous travel.
