Padma Maruvada, Ph.D (she/her/hers)

As a program director in the Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition, Dr. Maruvada manages the Nutrient Metabolism, Status, and Assessment program and the Clinical, Behavioral, and Epidemiological Obesity Research program. In this capacity, she oversees a large research portfolio that focuses on nutrient absorption, metabolism, nutritional status, nutritional interventions, and obesity research related to food intake and appetite regulation, diet composition, energy expenditure, and the metabolic and physiologic consequences.

In addition, she is involved in activities of the trans-NIH Common Fund-supported Metabolomics program. The CF-Metabolomics program, comprising a variety of grant awards, serves as a national consortium and supports resources and infrastructure for metabolomics technologies for promoting their application in biomedical research. She serves as the program director for the Regional Comprehensive Metabolomics Research Cores and Data Repository and Coordination Center. She is also the Program Director for the Chemical Analysis Site Grants for the CF- Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Program and Microbiome and Metagenomics Center for the Nutrition for Precision Health program.

Before joining NIDDK, she served as the Program Official for the Institutional Development Awards in the Division of research Infrastructure, National Center for Research Resources, and National Cancer Institute’s Early Detection Research Network where she managed Women’s cancers portfolio. She was trained in the intramural NIDDK program and UT Health Sciences. She received a Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry from Osmania University.
