(P06-004-23) Biochemical Performance of Plant Based Diet and It’s Preventive Effects Against Bone Related Disorder

Objectives: The efficacy study designed to evaluate the synergistic effect of food prepared by indigenous food sources like sesame seed combined with nuts and fruit extracts on bone mineral contents and density.

Methods: Effect of developed food on physical parameters, serum lipid profile, liver functioning, kidney functioning, bone mineral density, hematological parameters, bone screening nutrient composition was studied. Efficacy studies were carried out to assess the biochemical performance of nutritional enriched dietary products.

Results: For this trial, rabbits were fed a developed feed supplemented diet (plant based enriched minerals) 15 g/kg of body weight per rabbit in a day, G2 was given the same diet @ 25 g/kg of body weight per rabbit in a day along normal feed. Improved feed intake and body weight gain was observed in group G₁ (220.35± 4.25) and (1735.00g/rabbit) respectively. The positive effect on cholesterol level was noticed in G₁ (64.71±1.71 mg/dL) indicating minimum value. ALT and AST levels remains in normal range in both groups due to defense ability of sesamoline against liver damage by oxidative stress. The serum urea level reduced in G₁ (29.39±1.26 mg/dL), and G₂ (28.17±1.10 mg/dL) as compared to control group received normal feed indicting positive effect of plant based diet. Significant increase in bone mineral density was recorded by Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry in groups receiving plant based food showing value 1.228±0.004 for G1 and 2.283±0.003 g/cm²for G2. Improved blood calcium contents in G_1, and G₂ groups were calculated as 9.13±0.26, and 9.40±0.23 mg/dL respectively as compared to control group.

Conclusions: The findings indicated that sesame seed supplementation maintained the most important and chief bone mineral concentration at optimal required level with safety and no adverse effects on liver, kidney functioning and other blood constituents of mineral deficient trial groups.
