(P07-047-23) Presence of the Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine in Intervention Protocols With a Focus on Monitoring Gestational Weight

Objectives: The aim was to conduct a narrative review of the literature to analyze the presence of lifestyle medicine components in intervention protocols focused on reducing gestational weight gain.

Methods: This narrative literature review included information from clinical trials, available in the scientific literature, on lifestyle changes and gestational weight gain. For this, the six components of lifestyle medicine were considered: nutrition, physical activity, sleep, control of toxic substances, stress and relationships.
The literature search was performed in  2022 in the following databases: Scopus, MedLine/PubMed and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). The terms used for the literature search were defined by the Medical Subject Headings of the United States National Library of Medicine, and the Health Sciences Descriptors (SHDe).The review considered studies from the last ten years.

Results: This review included 20 studies, with no studies conducted in Brazil being found. Of the foreign studies, 60% were carried out in Europe, 25% in North America, 10% in Australia and 5% in Asia.
Most studies addressed healthy eating (AS) and physical activity (PA) components combined in interventions. Three studies included only the AS component, one study only PA, thirteen studies combined AS and PA and physical activity, two studies included AS, PA and stress management in the protocols, and one study combined AS, PA, stress management, sleep and relationships . Some studies also addressed techniques for monitoring and managing weight during pregnancy. Cooking classes as a strategy to support healthy eating were used in the protocols of only two studies. Strategies from behavioral cognitive theory, transtheoretical model, motivational interviewing and Nola Pender's health promotion model were also included in some interventions.
Of the 20 included studies, 14 (70%) had some positive outcome regarding gestational body weight control.

Conclusions: Most protocols to monitor and prevent excessive weight gain during pregnancy have included components of lifestyle medicine, healthy eating, and physical activity. The pillars of stress management, sleep hygiene and building and strengthening relationships were rarely included in the evaluated intervention protocols.
