(P08-024-23) Prevalence and Prognostic Significance of Malnutrition Diagnosed by GLIM Criteria in Patients With Acute Stroke: A Prospective Cohort Study

Objectives: Malnutrition is an important risk factor of clinical outcome in patients with stroke. Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria is a new tool for nutrition assessment. This study aims to investigate the prevalence and prognostic significance of malnutrition diagnosed by the GLIM criteria in patients with acute stroke.

Methods: This prospective cohort study recruited patients with first-time acute stroke who were admitted to our hospital between May 2022 and October 2022. Nutrition status was evaluated by the GLIM criteria within the first week of onset. Clinical outcome was assessed at 3 months by modified Rankin Scale (mRS), and mRS scores ≥ 3 was defined a poor outcome. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to assess the relationship between malnutrition and clinical outcome in patients with acute stroke.

Results: This study included a total of 202 patients (133 males; median age 63 years). The prevalence of malnutrition was 35.6% and 37 patients had a poor outcome. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that malnutrition was positively associated with the poor outcome of patients with acute stroke (odds ratio 13.138; 95% confidence interval 3.764-45.861).

Conclusions: In our cohort, the prevalence of malnutrition diagnosed by GLIM criteria was 35.6% and it was positively associated with the poor outcome in patients with acute stroke.
