(P13-003-23) The Z Potential of Extracellular Vesicles as a Potential Biomarker of Nutrition and Breast Cancer

Objectives: To explore the changes in Z potential of extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their association with body composition and biomarkers of metabolic risk of breast cancer patients before and 6mo after nutritional intervention.

Methods: Plasma EVs were isolated and characterized in 16 patients. EVs were isolated from the plasma of women with breast cancer. EVs size and Z potential were analyzed by dynamic light scattering analysis. Their morphology and size were analyzed using transmission electron microscopy. Clinicopathological data (HER2neu, estrogen receptor, and Ki67), anthropometric and body composition data, and plasma samples were available from a previous study.

Results: Small EVs and medium EVs were found, before and after the dietary intervention in the plasma of women with breast cancer. Z potential was associated with: HER2neu (β=2.1; p=0.00), ki67 (β=-1.39; p=0.007), estrogen positive (β=1.57; p=0.01), weight (β=-0.09; p=0.00), and visceral fat (β=0.004; p=0.00). Our results reveal a significant association between the EVs´ Z potential with biomarkers of metabolic risk and disease prognosis in women with breast cancer.

Conclusions: The Z potential of extracellular vesicles was shown to be sensitive to changes in nutritional status in women with breast cancer undergoing nutritional intervention.
