Objectives: To identify potential facilitators and barriers of different overweight and obesity prevention strategies implemented in Colombia at different levels (nationally, regionally, and/or locally).

Methods: We conducted a scoping review between October and November 2022 using PubMed and SciELO. Additional hand searches were conducted in local databases from Colombia's nutrition and public health programs to find relevant theses, dissertations, and governmental reports. Quantitative and qualitative reports were included if published between 2012 and 2022 with the target population (children to adults). Data were double-screened, and duplicates were removed before extraction. Eligible articles were evaluated against inclusion and exclusion criteria which centered around identifying facilitators and barriers regarding implementation, evaluation, and impact assessment for programs, interventions, and initiatives aiming at overweight and obesity prevention.

Results: 132 reports were identified;18 met inclusion criteria. Data were extracted using a data extraction sheet on barriers and facilitators in the implementation or evaluation of the strategies found. Barriers mentioned included lack of education, lack of access to the intervention, lack of participant motivation/interest, lack of sector collaboration, insufficient program visibility, budget, and obesogenic environment. Facilitators included incorporating the program into other existing policies/initiatives, fostering community interest, program flexibility/engagement, funding diversification, providing early interventions for children, and changes to the built environment.

Conclusions: Engaging community members in developing and maintaining obesity intervention programs may be a helpful strategy to strengthen the impact of said programs. Even though our study identified some barriers and facilitators to the impact of overweight and obesity prevention strategies, it may be helpful to deepen the knowledge regarding the force of impact and association between the factors found.
