(P24-084-23) Understanding the Spatial Predictors of Stunting Among 0–11 Months Children in Sambas District Indonesia Using Spatial Autoregressive Model

Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship of prenatal and postnatal determinants of stunting.

Methods: Utilizing data from the Nutritional Status Survey in 2016 and 2017, we developed a spatial autoregressive (SAR) model of various determinants on stunting. We used SAR models to identify spatial predictors that are critical in controlling stunting. Prenatal variables including history of antenatal care visit and maternal chronic energy deficiency (CED) and postnatal variables including low birth weight, dietary diversity score and exclusive breastfeeding were included. A p-value of 0.05 was considered to be significant throughout the study. Analysis was performed using STATA (version 15.1MP), Geoda and R version 4.2.1 (2022-06-23)

Results: A final sample of 559 children of 0–11 months of age was selected for the analysis. Spatial mapping shows that the most extensive stunting occurred in Salatiga sub district by more than 40% and low birth weight cases in Jawal Subdistrict with nearly 14%. Spatial Autoregression shows relationship between chronic energy deficiency, exclusive breastfeeding, history of antenatal care visit and dietary diversity score with stunting in Sambas District (R square= 0,64).

Conclusions: A robust direct relation was observed for chronic energy deficiency, exclusive breastfeeding, history of antenatal care visit and dietary diversity score. The variable was not associated with the outcome variable was low birth weight. The identification of hotspots through spatial analysis would help revive control strategies in the affected area according to geographical needs. It is extensively addressed that interventions related to health and nutrition during the first 1,000 days of life are crucial to seize the upshot of growth floundering among children.
